National Law Universities (NLU) are public law schools in India, founded pursuant to the second-generation reforms for legal education sought to be implemented by the Bar Council of India. The first NLU was the National Law School of India University aka NLS/NLU Bangalore which admitted its first batch in 1988. Since then, most of the states in India have NLUs. Currently there are 27 NLUs across the country out of which one is an off-centre campus of NLU Gandhinagar, GNLU SILVASSA Campus. Since the inception of NLUs, these law schools have continuously been ranked as India's most and world's one of the most prestigious and premier law schools by various agencies and are also referred as IITs of Legal Education. The admissions to these universities is conducted through the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) except in the case of National Law University, Delhi, which admits students through its own entrance examination named as All India Law Entrance Test (AILET). NLU Meghalaya also has its own admission / entrance test it is anticipated that in the coming years AILET and NLU Meghalaya's separate tests will be merged into CLAT. Admission to the NLUs is extremely competitive with an acceptance rate as low as 2% to 3% in case of CLAT and approx 0.50% via AILET. CLAT which is also known as the main gateway to NLUs has been ranked as one of the top five toughest entrance examinations in India. NLUs have Chief Justice of India (CJI) and various Chief Justices of Respective High Courts as their Chancellors and visiting professors. Many retired judges and bureaucrats are also here as permanent faculty and Vice-Chancellors which makes its faculty better than any other law schools in India. This is the main reason that most of the NLU alumni are well placed in corporate companies and law firms around the globe with lakhs and crores of hefty packages. They are litigants in various courts in India and are also clearing judicial services and civil services examinations in bulk by each passing year.

The Top 25 Film Schools in the United States

You want to be a film director, a screenwriter or a sound engineer. Maybe you just want to take a class on independent movie producing taught by Matthew McConaughey. Whatever your dream, there is a film school in the United States or abroad that wants your tuition check.
But, of course, not all film schools are created equal. That is why The Hollywood Reporter has been ranking the top 25 programs every year for half a decade. To assemble this year's list, the magazine toured campuses, met with deans and educators, talked to academic and industry experts and observers, and interviewed scores of alums. Multiple factors were weighed during the assigning of these rankings: prestige, practical experience, inspirational teachers, potential career connections and access to cutting-edge equipment (like the VR cameras USC recently acquired). The results on the following pages are nothing if not educational.

University of Southern California Film School

With an annual tuition of $49,464 a year (undergrad), USC always has kept an eye on the future, exploring new ideas and technologies even before Hollywood learns about them. That's one reason why it's The Hollywood Reporter's No. 1 pick for the third year in a row. "They've always been cutting edge," says Marvel president Kevin Feige (class of '95). "When I went, they had Moviolas, video machines, something called EditDroid, the first-ever digital editing machine, and these new machines called Avids. A year after I graduated, I was interning at a big production company at Warner Bros. The editorial team was just starting to talk about digital. I remember thinking, 'Oh you got to use Avids. I learned about this a year ago at USC.' " Another reason University of Southern California is at the top of this list: location, location, location. Being in the belly of the Hollywood beast, in Exposition Park, gives USC access to some of the best teachers in the industry, or at least some of the coolest. Like James Franco, who has been lecturing on independent producing for the last three semesters.
Notable Alumni: Judd Apatow, Doug Liman, George Lucas, Neal Moritz, Jason Reitman, Bryan Singer, John Wells

Harvard Law School

Harvard Law School is one of the professional graduate schools of Harvard University located in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Founded in 1817, it is the oldest continuously operating law school in the United States and one of the most prestigious in the world. It is ranked first in the world by the QS World University Rankings and the ARWU Shanghai Ranking. Each class in the three-year J.D. program has approximately 560 students, among the largest of the top 150 ranked law schools in the United States. The first-year class is broken into seven sections of approximately 80 students, who take most first-year classes together. Harvard's uniquely large class size and prestige have led the law school to graduate a great many distinguished alumni in the judiciary, government, and the business world. According to Harvard Law's 2015 ABA-required disclosures, 95% of the Class of 2014 passed the Bar exam. Harvard Law School graduates have accounted for 568 judicial clerkships in the past three years,[when?] including one-quarter of all Supreme Court clerkships, more than any other law school in the United States. Harvard Law School's founding is traditionally linked to the funding of Harvard's first professorship in law, paid for from a bequest from the estate of Isaac Royall, Jr., a colonial American landowner and a slaveholder. Today, it is home to the largest academic law library in the world. The current dean of Harvard Law School is John F. Manning, who assumed the role on July 1, 2017. The law school has 328 faculty members.
