Management (or managing) is the administration of organizations, whether they are a business, a nonprofit organization, or a government body through business administration, nonprofit management, or the political science sub-field of public administration respectively. It is the process of managing the resources of businesses, governments, and other organizations. Larger organizations generally have three hierarchical levels of managers, in a pyramid structure: Senior management roles include the board of directors and a chief executive officer (CEO) or a president of an organization. They set the strategic goals and policy of the organization and make decisions on how the overall organization will operate. Senior managers are generally executive-level professionals who provide direction to middle management. Middle management roles include branch managers, regional managers, department managers, and section managers. They provide direction to the front-line managers and communicate the strategic goals and policy of senior management to the front-line managers. Line management roles include supervisors and front-line team leaders, who oversee the work of regular employees, or volunteers in some voluntary organizations, and provide direction on their work. Line managers often perform the managerial functions that are traditionally considered the core of management. Despite the name, they are usually considered part of the workforce and not part of the organization's management class. Management is taught across different disciplines at colleges and universities. Prominent major degree programs in management include Management, Business Administration and Public Administration. Social scientists study management as an academic discipline, investigating areas such as social organization, organizational adaptation, and organizational leadership. In recent decades, there has been a movement for evidence-based management.

The Yale School of Management (also known as Yale SOM) is the graduate business school of Yale University and is located on Whitney Avenue in New Haven, Connecticut, United States. The School awards the Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Advanced Management (MAM), and Ph.D. degrees. As of August 2015, 655 students were enrolled in its MBA program, 63 in the MBA for Executives program, 64 in the MAM program, and 43 in the PhD program. The School has 90 faculty members (including joint and visiting faculty) and the dean is Edward A. Snyder.

The School conducts education and research in leadership, economics, operations management, marketing, entrepreneurship, organizational behavior, and other areas. The School offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate-level academic programs and concentrations. The School also has an Executive MBA degree program with opportunities for focused study in healthcare, asset management or sustainability. It also offers student exchange programs with HEC Paris, IESE, IE Business School, the London School of Economics, and Tsinghua University.

Rotman University of Toronto

The Joseph L. Rotman School of Management commonly known as the Rotman School of Management, the Rotman School or just Rotman, is the University of Toronto's graduate business school, located in Downtown Toronto. The University of Toronto has been offering undergraduate courses in commerce and management since 1901, but the school was formally established in 1950 as the Institute of Business Administration, which was then changed to the Faculty of Management Studies in 1972 and subsequently shortened to the Faculty of Management in 1986. The school was renamed in 1997 after the late Joseph L. Rotman (1935-2015), its principal benefactor.

The school offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs in business administration, finance and commerce, including full-time, part-time and executive MBA programs along with a Master of Finance program, a Master of Management Analytics, a Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting, and a doctoral program, the Rotman PhD. Additionally, in collaboration with other schools at the university, it offers combined MBA degrees with the Faculty of Law (JD/MBA), the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering (Skoll BASc/MBA), and the Munk School of Global Affairs (MBA/MGA); and Collaborative Programs in Asia-Pacific Studies and Environmental Studies. Out of 113 faculty members, 98% have doctorates. Roger Martin, who served as the school's dean from 1998 to 2013, is considered by Business Week as one of the most influential management thinkers in the world.
